A Main Power Surge Protection Device (SPD) protects electrical distribution systems and connected equipment against transient voltage surges caused by lightning strikes and switching operations.
A main power SPD is installed at the main distribution board (MDB) or main incoming electrical panel to reduce dangerous voltage surges before they spread throughout the building's electrical network. It helps protect sensitive equipment, including CCTV systems, servers, network switches, UPS systems, fire alarm panels and other electronic devices.
The appropriate SPD type depends on the building's lightning protection system, electrical installation and risk assessment.
