Stainless Steel Rod

A stainless steel rod (or round bar) is a solid cylindrical metal alloy valued for its corrosion resistance and high tensile strength. Composed primarily of iron, chromium (minimum 10.5%), and nickel, these rods feature a "self-healing" passive layer that prevents rust, making them essential for everything from food-grade kitchenware and architectural supports to precision machinery.

Stainless steel rods are categorized by their metallurgical "grades," which determine their durability in different environments. In 2026, the market has expanded to include high-tolerance AI-fabricated rods used in robotics and advanced medical implants. [1, 2]
Primary Grades and Applications
  • Grade 304 (The All-Rounder): The most common grade, containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is the standard for indoor furniture, kitchen equipment, and general structural work due to its excellent weldability and cost-efficiency.
  • Grade 316 (Marine Grade): Enhanced with 2–3% molybdenum, this grade offers superior resistance to salt and chemicals. It is the industry requirement for coastal construction and chemical plants.
  • Grade 400 Series (Hardened & Magnetic): These rods can be heat-treated for extreme hardness and are magnetic. They are typically used for mechanical shafts, pump valves, and high-strength fasteners.
  • Threaded Rods: Fully threaded stainless rods provide permanent, rust-proof connections in oil, gas, and heavy infrastructure projects
