A Type 2 Surge Protection Device (SPD) protects distribution boards and connected electrical equipment against transient voltage surges caused by lightning-induced disturbances and electrical switching operations.
The Type 2 SPD is installed in a distribution board (DB) or sub-distribution board to limit transient overvoltages and divert surge currents safely to the earthing system. It provides secondary surge protection for electrical circuits and helps protect sensitive equipment, including CCTV cameras, network switches, servers, UPS systems, fire alarm panels and building automation devices.
