The Door Switch (or door lamp switch) is a simple but vital component that detects whether your refrigerator door is open or closed
Primary Functions
Lighting Control: It turns the interior cabinet light on when the door is opened and off when it is closed.
Fan & Cooling Control: In most modern frost-free models, the switch also signals the evaporator fan to stop running when the door is open. This prevents cold air from being blown out of the unit and warm air from being sucked in.
Defrost & Alarm: It can trigger door-open alarms if the door is left ajar for too long and coordinates with the control board to manage energy efficiency.
Common Types
Plunger Switch (Mechanical): The most common type. It features a physical spring-loaded button (plunger) that is pressed down by the door.
Magnetic Switch (Reed Switch): Common in high-end or French door models (like LG and Samsung). It uses a hidden magnet in the door to open or close an electrical circuit without physical contact.
