PVC Pipe Cutter

A PVC cutter is a scissor- or ratchet-style hand tool used to slice through various types of plastic tubing, including PVC, CPVC, PEX, and PE. It typically features a sharp, hardened steel blade and an ergonomic handle, allowing users to make precise, burr-free cuts with minimal manual effort

Long Description & How It Works
PVC cutters are the preferred choice for professional plumbers and DIYers because they eliminate the need for deburring and don't produce plastic dust.
How the Ratchet Mechanism Works:
The most common variety is the ratcheting PVC cutter, which uses a mechanical gear system to multiply the user's hand strength:
  • Engagement: The handles are pulled apart to open the jaws and reset the internal ratcheting gear.
  • Incremental Cutting: Every time the handles are squeezed, a "pumping action" advances the blade slightly further into the pipe.
  • Auto-Locking: The ratchet mechanism holds the blade in place between squeezes, preventing it from bouncing back and ensuring a safe, consistent cut.
  • Completion: Once the blade slices completely through the material, the cut piece is removed, leaving a smooth surface ready for fitting.
Types of PVC Cutters:
  • Scissor-Style: Best for small, thin-walled tubing (1" or smaller) where direct force is sufficient.
  • Ratcheting Cutters: Ideal for medium pipes (up to 2-1/2") as they provide high leverage for thicker walls.
  • Rotary Cutters: Excellent for large-diameter pipes (up to 28") in industrial or trench settings, as they rotate around the pipe to maintain perfect alignment.
  • Internal Cutters: Used to cut pipes from the inside, which is essential for repairs in tight spaces or below-floor levels
