Condenser Coil

The condenser acts as a heat exchanger. High-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant gas enters these coils from the compressor. As the gas travels through the loops, it releases its heat to the cooler surrounding air, causing the refrigerant to cool down and condense into a high-pressure liquid

Depending on the age and model of your refrigerator, you will find these coils in one of three places:
  • Back-Mounted: Large, black, grid-like coils attached to the outside back of the unit. These rely on natural airflow (convection) to cool down.
  • Bottom-Mounted (Under-unit): Located underneath the fridge near the compressor. These are compact and usually require a condenser fan to blow air across them.
  • Skin-Mounted: Hidden inside the left and right side walls of the refrigerator cabinet. The walls of the fridge will feel warm to the touch when the compressor is running.
